Solution to: Optical Illusions: Confusing Colors

Section A appears to be lighter than section B, but this is just an illusion: both sections have the same color. You can see this if we extend the colored sections as shown in the figure on the right. Section A is surrounded by dark sections, and therefore is appears to be lighter than section B, which is surrounded by light sections.
